Workshop on Aristotle’s Nicomachean Ethics X.6–9
Prague | 20–22 May 2026
Overview
This workshop brings together scholars working on Book X, chapters 6–9 of Aristotle’s Nicomachean Ethics. The meeting is designed as a small, discussion-focused event in which participants introduce selected passages as a basis for collective interpretation and debate.
Recent scholarship has renewed attention to the concluding chapters of the Ethics, especially the relationship between happiness, contemplation, and political life. This workshop provides an opportunity for concentrated engagement with these questions through close textual discussion.
The workshop will open with a keynote lecture by Dorothea Frede, reflecting on interpretive questions that remain open in current scholarship.
